Guild Wars 2 Item Upgrade
Item upgrade, also referred to as "upping," improves an item's stats. Each upgrade increment boosts a stat linearly.
item upgrading can recycle up to six items at a time to gain an ability to gauge the level of each of the upgraded components. The cost of recycling items increases according to their rarity and level.
Upgrade components

In Guild Wars 2, an upgrade to an item is a method to increase the stats on your weapons and armor. This can be achieved by a variety of methods through the use of upgrade components or by increasing the rarity or mark level. A lot of items can be reforged to increase their value.
You can purchase upgradeable items throughout the game. They are available all over all over the world and are rewards for missions. They can also be crafted by players. The primary method to upgrade gear is through the use of upgrade components which are components that can be inserted into equipment. The majority of equipment comes with slots for upgrading, and many require a specific level of upgrade. Some upgrade components offer specific bonuses, while others offer an overall bonus.
There are several types of upgrade components available in the game, such as universal upgrades, inscriptions, and jewels. Universal upgrades, such as gemstones and enchantments, can be placed in any kind of equipment and offer fewer bonuses than those that are equipment type specific to the type of equipment. Glyphs can be placed in gathering tools and offer numerous bonuses, from increasing the speed at which an item gathers to providing extra crafting materials.
To upgrade an item, click it in your inventory and open the Upgrade window. The window will show an overview on the right side of the screen that shows what the expected stats will be after the upgrade, and any necessary components or materials. The Upgrade button at the bottom will be labeled as Blocked if you don't have enough of either.
The upper-right corner displays the amount of upgrade components required for a particular item. The cost of an upgrade increases with the level and rarity of the item. However you can lower this cost by purchasing upgrades from a vendor or trading them with other players.
Most weapons can be upgraded with a prefix upgrade for example, an insignia or rune, and many can be upgraded using a suffix upgrade. These upgrades change the name of the item and add an adjective, for example 'Radiant' or 'Minor Vigor. The only exceptions are the noninscribable wands, foci and shields from the Prophecies and Factions campaigns, that cannot be upgraded using any kinds of mods at all.
Glyphs
Glyphs are an effective tool to communicate visual information. They animate in order to grab the viewer's eye and entice curiosity. The animation of glyphs mimics body language, making them even more effective in conveying a message across linguistic barriers. Glyphs can also enhance the retention of the message by triggering an emotional connection in the brain.
Each glyph can increase the value of a stat by a specific amount. This is clearly displayed on the item when you open it in the Glyph Storage. This is the maximum value that the glyph can increase a stat's value by and not the amount it will actually increase the stat by. The value of the glyph is contingent on the tier and the quality of the item that you are enchanting.
Most upgrade components inserted into items cannot be repaired or replaced without dismantling the equipment in question, unless it is legendary equipment and upgrades. If you have a glyph or rune you do not want to use, but it hasn't been incorporated to the gear yet, you can move the item to a different piece by selecting the Upgrade Glyphs menu within the Glyphs Panel. This will create an Glyph Set that includes the selected glyph.
You can remove the glyph using the Black Lion Salvage Kit, or an Ascended Salvage tool. This will cause the item to be destroyed in which it is installed, but you can recover the upgraded item using the glyph and its shards therefore it should not be considered a loss.
The addition of a glyph to an item can cause it to become unstable and the shards that are left of that glyph will disappear from your inventory when you take it down. You can also add a glyph to your equipment to give it an additional benefit. For example, the glyph Deferred Damage can store damage for the wearer and distribute it slowly rather than all at once. This can be helpful for those who take many hits from enemies however do not want to be overwhelmed.
Reroll tokens
Reroll tokens are used to change the affixes that are placed on weapons and equipment. They can be obtained from many sources, including mysterious boxes or rare drops from skulled monsters or by killing bosses. Each reroll gives the player a random affix that is typically better than what they had prior to. Reroll tokens can also be a good method to reroll the stats of a weapon and can be upgraded to provide better damage or additional perks.
Items that have been rerolled do not appear in the item upgrade menu, however, they still qualify to receive upgrades. These rerolled items are able to be recycled by pressing the "upgrade" button that alters the layout of the item window and allows up to six items to be chosen to recycle. Recycling an item can add a small amount of points to its gauge of level. The amount is determined by the item's rarity and its level, which means higher-level items are more useful to recycle than lower-level ones.
In addition to reroll tokens, players can use Star Remnants and Reroll Tokens to reroll the weapon traits of an upgraded unit. Rerolls are based on a % chance of a weapon's traits. If it is higher, then the weapon is upgraded. If it rolls lower the weapon remains as is. Weapons can be rerolled up to three times.
Rerolling is an excellent way to upgrade an item. However, players should be aware of the fact that the total ilvl will be reduced by the number the rerolls required to bring it to the final level. This is evident on rings and Diadems, since they have no other options to increase the ilvl.
The Reroll system has been criticized by players as being too expensive and it's more fair to let people pay for it using money or a food item that allows them to change their builds without a lot of time and energy. However, paid rerolls are not something that the developers would like to implement at this time in the game's development. They plan to add the ability for players to alter their race in the near future.
Leveling
There are many ways to level up an item upgrade. The first is to increase the amount of upgrade which boosts the value of an upgrade for a given stat. The second is to boost the effect of upgrading, which increases the damage or heal of a given stat. The base item can be upgraded to an advanced upgrade type. Once this is done the new item will maintain its iLevel but it will benefit from the upgrade effects of the upgraded item type.
When upgrading items, it is important to keep in mind that upgrades are not guaranteed. Most of the time, a better roll will be derived from glyphs, but there are also chances for higher or more special rolls. Additionally, the iLevel of the upgrade will be determined by the item type, so if you upgrade a rare or unique item to an extraordinary type you will have a chance to get an increased iLevel.
Upgrades to items can be costly, particularly if you're upgrading a piece of gear from the normal to the legendary track. The cost of upgrading an item will depend on the iLevel it's built upon and the number of levels to upgrade. Some upgrade tracks also require crests to reach the next level.
If you're lucky, your upgraded item will be at the highest level on its upgrade track and gain an additional benefit. This will provide the item with a significant upgrade value. The bonus effect will change with each upgrade level though. In general, the effect of upgrading is increased a value of +3.
Depending on the item's base level and its upgrade path, the iLevel of the upgraded item will also change. For instance the weapon that has been upgraded from a rare or exclusive item to a rare or exceptional item will have a chance to be upgraded to the enhanced defense of the new base item type.
